PNP releases Parojinog siblings' mugshots after inquest at Camp Crame

Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez and her brother Reynaldo Jr. underwent inquest proceedings at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame on Tuesday afternoon.

The prosecutors from the Department of Justice arrived at the Custodial Center past 1 p.m. and stayed at the detention facility for at least two hours.

They declined to provide details of the proceedings.

Based on mugshots provided by the police, the Parojinog siblings were charged with violation of Section 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (possession of dangerous drugs) and Section 21 of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (acquisition or purchase and sale of firearms and ammunition).

They were also charged with violation of Section 3-A of Republic Act 9516 or "unlawful manufacture, sales, acquisition, disposition, importation or possession of a part, ingredient, machinery, tool or instrument used or intended to be used for the manufacture, construction, assembly, delivery or detonation."

The inquest was supposed to be conducted on Monday afternoon but the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), whose members led the raid at the Parojinogs' homes on Sunday, requested that it be done today.

In an earlier interview on Unang Balita, the siblings' lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said they would ask for the release of the Parojinogs because the police violated the 36-hour rule on the filing of charges.

The siblings' parents, Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Jr. and his wife, Susan, were among the 15 people killed in the predawn raids.

Police said the raiding teams retaliated at the group of the Parojinogs when they were fired upon while being served with the search warrants.

The siblings and several others were arrested during the raids.

Police said the operatives seized firearms, explosives and more than a kilogram of shabu. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
