Comelec chief Bautista's SALN details P176-M net worth

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista has a total asset minus liabilities of P176.3 million on the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) he filed for 2016.

Bautista's SALN is the subject of public speculation anew after his wife Patricia Paz Bautista revealed Monday that he had unexplained wealth worth P1 billion left out of his statement last year.

According to Bautista's 2016 SALN, he has P176.3 million et worth. The only business interest listed in his SALNs from 2015 to 2017 is holdings company XMA Corp., which he acquired in 2007.

His 2015 SALN showed he has real properties worth P144,500,000; personal properties worth P80,800,000; and liabilities worth P55,000,000, all amounting to P170.3 million.

Bautista's total net worth in his 2014 SALN was P163 million.

Mrs. Bautista said her husband left out bank accounts from the Luzon Development Bank (LDB), Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC), and Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in his assets.

His condominium units in One Bonifacio High Street at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City and The District in San Francisco, California were also supposedly left out in his 2016 SALN.

Lawyers Jam Aniag and Robert Beltejar, her legal counsel, said in an interview on News To Go that the Comelec commissioner supposedly amassed this fortune during his government stint, beginning in 2010.

Bautista has dismissed his wife's allegations as stemming from their marital troubles. —Rie Takumi/JST, GMA News
