Honasan posts bail for graft raps in Laguna court

Senator Gringo Honasan on Friday posted a P60,000 bail on the two counts of graft he is facing for the alleged misuse of  his priority development assistance funds (PDAF).

Chief Supt. Ma.O Aplasca, Region 4-A police director, confirmed that Honasan has just completed posting bail on the two counts of graft cases he is facing.

“Booking procedures were earlier conducted at [the] Biñan City Police Station before proceeding to the court,” he said in a text message.

He added the court sheriff will deliver to the Sandiganbayan the posted bail within the day, for the information and appropriate action of the court .

An initial report showed that the senator went to the Biñan police station around 7:30 a.m. He was accompanied by his lawyer, Dennis Manalo.

Honasan posted the bail past 10 a.m. at the office of Biñan City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Teodoro Solis in Laguna as confirmed by his staff.

A release order for Honasan was issued by the same court.

The senator earlier maintained his innocence, as the Sandiganbayan’s second division issued a warrant for his arrest.

“I am completely innocent of the charges against me. All my life I have fought everything I am accused of, and I will continue to do so,” he said in a statement.

Honasan is accused of misusing P30 million of his PDAF in 2012.

Arrested and detained

The Sandiganbayan received the return of warrant, receipt of the cash bond, and other pertinent documents of Honasan's bail around 2 p.m.

According to the court order penned by Solis, the Binan Police first arrested Honasan and was detained at its headquarters before the lawmaker was brought to the RTC.

"Accused [Honasan] has already been arrested by the Police Officers of PNP, City of Binan, Laguna per Return of Warrant of Arrest and Certificate of Detention dated August 11, 2017, respectively. He was detained at PNP, City of Binan, Laguna and was brought to the court," the order said.

The return of warrant, however, stated that Honasan "voluntarily surrendered" to the Binan City Police Station.
