Why Faeldon cried at Senate hearing on shabu mess

Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon on Tuesday explained why he became emotional during the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on a P6.4-billion shipment of drugs from China.

"You know kanina nakita niyo tumulo 'yung luha ko. Bakit? Kasi the good guys in the Bureau are being persecuted," Faeldon said in a 24 Oras report by Jun Veneracion.

Faeldon and the agency have come under fire in recent weeks over the shipment, with several lawmakers calling for his resignation.

At the start of the hearing, Faeldon was grilled by Senator Antonio Trillanes, asking him if there is corruption at the agency.

Faeldon initially refused to answer Trillanes' questions, saying that he was already being judged by the senator. Trillanes and Faeldon were both part of the 2003 Oakwood mutiny in Makati.

Trillanes warned Faeldon that he could be cited in contempt if he would continue to refuse to answer the questions.

Faeldon would end up answering the question, but would later break down in tears as he spoke to committee chairman Richard Gordon.
