BOC 'CORRUPT TO THE CORE'

Duterte: Faeldon asked to be relieved three times from Customs

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said Bureau of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon had asked to be removed from the agency at least three times.

Duterte made the revelation in a speech before law enforcers in Ozamiz City as he addressed the issue surrounding corruption in the agency.

"Hindi ko naman akalain ‘yang Bureau of Customs na ‘yan, akala ko kaalyado ko. Pero si Faeldon is not the one. He is not that kind of person. Hindi ko siya dedepensahan. Si Faeldon has written me thrice, tulo, asking me to relieve him. Noon pa ‘yan pag-umpisa pa ‘yan,” he said.

“Sabi niya, ‘Hindi ko natupad ‘yung pangako ko sa’yo.’ And he was—he was right. Sabi niya, ‘Hindi ko na-control sir, hindi ko talaga kaya eh.’ Eh because the Customs is—pagka X-rated pa hard core; it is corrupt to the core,” he added.

It was reported on August 6 that Faeldon said in a radio interview that he asked Duterte to fire him amid the congressional hearings on the  of shabu shipment from China.

The BOC is currently being probed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives over the shipment of P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China.

Legislators from both chambers have asked Faeldon to resign.

But Duterte, after summoning Faeldon to Malacañang for a meeting, expressed his desire to have Faeldon stay on in the post. —JST/KVD, GMA News
