Duterte to Parojinog followers: Sumunod kayo at kayong isusunod ko

A day after the four Parojinog family members killed in a police raid were buried, President Rodrigo Duterte set foot on the family's bailiwick, Ozamiz City, where he warned the family's followers who are involved in the illegal drug trade. 

"Tingnan mo, narco-politics. Tingnan mo kung anong magawa ng isang pamilya, hinawakan niya ang isang siyudad. Ang mga tao dito, ‘yung nakatikim sa kanyang patronage, pulitika, trabaho, 'yan, paiyak-iyak kayo. Sumunod kayo at kayong isusunod ko," he said.

Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., his wife Susan and two of his siblings, as well as 12 others, were killed last month in a predawn operation by the police in their compound.

Mayor Parojinog was among the local officials Duterte has linked to illegal drugs. Before him, two other mayors accused of having drug links were killed in police operations.

Duterte, in Ozamiz City, said that if anyone—regardless of position in the local government—is killed in the drug war, it’s because of his order to destroy the apparatus and the organization of drug syndicates.

"Hindi ko hintuan ‘to. Hindi na ako hihinto dito," he said.

The President, however, assured Ozamiz City residents that he would get rid of narco-politics in their city.

"Ito lang ang—pumunta ako dito just to assure you at kayong mga taga-Ozamiz, nakatikim na kayo ng narco-politics. It is here to stay for a while. I hope that I can get rid of it before I go out of my office. Sana lang naman maabutan ko,” he said.

Two of Mayor Parojinog's children — Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and Reynaldo Jr — are currently detained in Camp Crame after they were arrested during the raid. —KBK, GMA News
