Airport exec goes on leave after being linked to Customs corruption

A ranking official of the Manila International Airport Authority has taken a leave of absence after his name was dragged into the alleged corruption at the Bureau of Customs.

MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said assistant general manager for security and emergency concerns Allen Capuyan has gone on leave to clear his name after it was brought up at a Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on Tuesday.

"After I came back from Clark this afternoon, Col. allen Capuyan came to see me. He filed his leave of absence saying he wants to focus his efforts in cleaning his name after it was mentioned by Mark Taguba in today's Senate hearing," Monreal said in a statement.

"I respect his decision; so effective tomorrow August 23, I am designating an officer-in-charge to replace him during his absence," he added.

Confessed Customs "fixer" Mark Taguba said he was referred to a certain “Noel” and “Big Brother,” whose real name was a certain “General Capuyan" after his shipments failed to get leniency despite his million-peso payments.

Senator Antonio Trillanes said it was Col. Allen Capuyan of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983.

Taguba said it was the third group he dealt with for his transactions at the BOC.

“May instruction sila na may email at nandoon lahat ng tariff codes na gagamitin kasi no human intervention na daw,” Taguba said.

Taguba is one of the nine individuals charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in relation to the P6.4-billion worth of shabu shipment smuggled from China in May. —NB, GMA News
