Duterte to meet Kian's parents in Malacañang

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to meet the parents of slain teenager Kian Loyd delos Santos in Malacañang on Monday.

Palace officials made the announcement after his boodle fight with Cabinet and local officials to assure the public that poultry products in the province are safe for consumption amid the bird flu outbreak.

Officials said the request was made by the Delos Santos family.

No other details were given regarding the meeting.

Delos Santos, 17, was buried at La Loma Cemetery in Caloocan City on Saturday, more than a week after he was killed in a police anti-drug operation in Caloocan City.

In his media interview here, Duterte reiterated that after he saw the alleged CCTV footage of the policemen dragging Delos Santos, he called up Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa to detain those involved.

The police reported that Delos Santos, a Grade 12 student, resisted arrest and fought back but witnesses and the CCTV footage said and showed otherwise.

The teenager's death, which triggered massive public outrage and calls for a stop in Duterte's violent drug war, is currently the subject of investigations, including the police and the Senate. —KBK, GMA News
