Palace exec: Duterte won’t establish a revolutionary gov’t

He may have broached the idea but President Rodrigo Duterte is not about to put up a revolutionary government during his term, a Malacañang spokesperson said Wednesday.

In a statement, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella reiterated Duterte’s remarks and highlighted that he just mentioned a better way to solve the country’s problems - than martial law.

“The President’s [remark] about a ‘revolutionary government’ was just an approach to resolving the country's endemic and structural problems hindering genuine progress,” Abella said.

“However, PRRD made it clear that he will not establish a revolutionary government under his administration,” he added.

Before his new appointees in Malacañang on Tuesday, Duterte floated the establishment of a revolutionary government as a solution to corruption and problems in the bureaucracy.

But the President made it clear that it was not an option he would take himself.

“For the Philippines to really go up sabi ko ang kailangan ng mga tao is not martial law. Go for [sa]ginawa ni Cory, revolutionary government. Pero huwag kayong magtingin sa akin, hindi ako pwede diyan… na you declare all positions of the government vacant and change all,” Duterte said. — Trisha Macas/RSJ/KVD, GMA News
