PNP chief: Iloilo top drug lord’s slay is provincial police feat

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Saturday credited the slay of the alleged No. 1 drug lord in Iloilo on Friday to the provincial police office.

Dela Rosa, in an interview on dzBB, made the comment to clear the air of some rumors that the killing of  suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido for resisting arrest was in preparation for the possible assignment of the controversial police Chief  Inspector Jovie Espenido to Iloilo City.

Coincidentally, Espenido was the chief of police in Albuera, Leyte when suspected drug lord Mayor Rolando Espinosa was killed while in detention.

Shortly after Espenido's transfer to Ozamiz City, suspected drug lord Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. was killed in a police raid.

"Matagal nang pihaghahanap si Richard Prevendido ... hindi talaga siya nag-surrender. Ang pagkapatay sa kanya ay [bunga ng] pagsisikap ng Iloilo provincial police," Dela Rosa said.

Also, he said that Espenido was supposed to be transferred only to Iloilo City.

"Napatay si Prevendido sa distrito ng Jaro sa Iloilo at hindi sa Iloilo City," Dela Rosa added.

He also said that Espenido will be assigned as OIC of the Iloilo City Police, and would remain with the Ozamiz City Police.

Earlier, Malacañang denied claims that  Espenido's planned transfer to Iloilo City was to pick on suspected illegal drugs trade protector Mayor Jed Mabilog, who is on Duterte's drug list. —LBG, GMA News
