Gordon's ethics complaint filed against Trillanes

Senator Richard Gordon has filed his ethics complaint against colleague Antonio Trillanes IV.

A tweet by radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo on Monday evening showed the first page of the complaint, including the stamp that it was received by the ethics committee chaired by Senate Majority Leader Vicente "Tito" Sotto III at 7:44 p.m.

In an interview on Unang Balita on Monday, Gordon said that Trillanes' language during the blue ribbon investigation into the case of the P6.4-billion shabu shipment from China last Thursday was against the Senate code of ethics and was "unparliamentary."

"Kami ay mga nag-a-abogado, 'komite de absuelto', bawal na bawal sa senador 'yan. 'Di gawain ng senador 'yan dahil sa ethics. Sinasabi lahat ng aksyon na masama 'yung magsasalita ka ng masama sa kapwa mong senador," he said.

"Acts of languages na nakaka-offend o nakakasakit sa senador or any public institution ay unparliamentary. At walang senador under any circumstances ay papayagang gumamit ng maanghang o 'di makabagay na lenggwahe."

Trillanes referred to the blue ribbon committee as "committee de abswelto" after insinuating that the committee — represented then by Gordon and Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III — was "badgering Customs fixer Mark Taguba.

Gordon said Trillanes was irked when Sotto called Taguba's testimony "hearsay" in reference to the alleged involvement of Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, son of President Rodrigo Duterte, and Attorney Manases Carpio, the President's son-in-law, in the drug trade.

Gordon had claimed that the ethics complaint has the support of “more than 14” senators. He made the pronouncement after a two-hour caucus with the 17-member majority bloc. All majority senators were present except for Senator JV Ejercito, who is confined in the hospital.

Trillanes, for his part, described as “premature” the claim of Gordon that he has the support of more than 14 senators in the ethics complaint. —JST, GMA News
