Duterte appoints DAR OIC following Mariano's CA rejection

Malacañang on Monday appointed Undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong as the officer-in-charge of the Department of Agrarian Reform.

The announcement came after former Anakpawis party-list representative Rafael "Ka Paeng" Mariano was rejected by the Commission on Appointments.

“The Palace announces the designation of Undersecretary Rosalina L. Bistoyong as Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Agrarian Reform per instruction of the [President],” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a briefing in Malacañang.

“The order took effect on September 8, the day the Executive Secretary signed the memorandum. OIC Bistoyong’s designation will ensure the continuous delivery of public service,” he added.

Bistoyong has been a DAR undersecretary since 2010 and has been in government service since 1989.

After President Rodrigo Duterte was elected in May 2016, the Left recommended Mariano to DA, University of the Philippines professor Judy Taguiwalo to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and former Gabriela party-list Rep. Liza Maza to the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Secretary.

Before Mariano, Taguiwalo was also rejected by the CA.

The other original members of Duterte's Cabinet who have been rejected were Perfecto Yasay as Foreign Affairs secretary and Gina Lopez as Environment secretary. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
