14 Maring fatalities yet to be verified —NDRRMC


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday said it has received report of 14 fatalities as a result of Tropical Depression Maring, but it has yet to verify it.

In a phone interview with reporters, Romina Marasigan, NDRRMC spokesperson, said the reports came from various sources like the Philippine National Police, the Department of Health and the local government untis.

"The NDRRMC Operation Center has received report of 14 fatalities due to Maring. However, it is still for verification and confirmation of DILG (Department of Local and Interior Government),” Marasigan said.

"Nalilito rin kami dahil may PNP report, may DOH report, may LGU report sa casualties." 

So far, the NDRRMC has only verified five fatalities.

"Nire-reconcile namin kasi ‘yung mga pangalan [at] tine-check pa namin baka mamaya iisang tao lang pala ‘yan," Marasigan said.

Marasigan said they are likewise verifying reports on missing persons.

In its September 14 update, NDRRMC said 33,196 persons or 7,600 families have been affected by Marign in 215 barangays in Regions III, 4-A (Calabarzon), and National Capital Region.

A total of 1,052 houses have been damaged in Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon, of which 892 were partially damaged and 160 were totally destroyed.

NDRMMC also received report that a total of P23.8 million worth of rice have been damaged in Quezon province. —KBK, GMA News
