'NOT A HOLIDAY'

Duterte declares September 21 a 'day of protest'

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he would declare September 21 a day of protest.

"September is not a holiday. I have declared it as a day of protest. Lahat ng gusto pa magprotesta laban sa gobyerno, laban sa pulis, military, lahat, magbabaan kayo riyan," he told reporters in Caloocan City after visiting the wake of slain PO3 Junior Hilario.

Duterte said that he would also protest against the government because of their small pay and lack of equipment.

He added that government work and classes will be suspended on September 21. Malacañang is yet to issue a formal document about the day of protest or on work and class cancellations.

Duterte also teased underpaid media workers to vent out their sentiments against their employers on the day of protest.

"Pati media, kayong underpaid sa media, hindi binabayaran nitong mga — itong mga kuripot," he said in jest.

Movement Against Tyranny, a multisectoral group, is organizing a rally on September 21 at Luneta Park to coincide with the 45th Martial Law anniversary.

Duterte has previously spoken out about planners of mass movements, saying he would not hesitate to use force if protesters turn violent. —JST, GMA News
