Man secretly takes footage of Uber driver in Atio Castillo case, faces charges

Tension gripped the Manila Police District early Wednesday as a man who was caught taking a video of the Uber driver who delivered the belongings of alleged hazing victim Horacio Tomas "Atio" Castillo III to his home in Makati, takes off when police become aware of what he was doing.

You will recall that the driver spoke to police on condition of anonymity.

In  her report on GMA's News to Go, Vonne Aquino on Wednesday said that the man, who introduced himself as a certain Arvin Tan, was at the police station to file a complaint reportedly about someone from the MPD Station 8 who held a gun to his head.

"Sinong nanutok sa akin ng baril sa Station 8, gusto ko sanang i-report, anong procedure?" Tan told PO3 Aldeen Legaspi.

"Punta ka sa imbestigador sa general assignment kasi homicide section po ito. Bale itong mga reporter natin nagcocover lang po ito," Legaspi replied.

Police however saw Tan surreptitiously taking videos of the Uber driver and tried to stop him before he walked out of homicide.

Instead of stopping, Tan hurriedly left and got into his vehicle and on his mobile phone.

"Magpakilala po kayo, patingin ng ID mo," one of the policemen asked Tan.

Instead,  Tan threw his cigarette butt in front of the policemen and pulled out of the driveway, almost running down some of the policemen who was asking him to step out of his vehicle.

Police fired warning shots but Tan sped away.

MPD authorities already issued an all-points-bulletin for Tan and his vehicle with plate number ACA 3829.

They said Tan may face charges of malicious mischief, resisting arrest, destruction of property, alarm and scandal, and unjust vexation.

Police now think Tan may have an extra interest in the Castillo case, and may have gone there precisely to take footage of the Uber driver. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.  — Marlly Rome Bondoc/MDM/KVD, GMA News
