Duterte inventing Trillanes’ account numbers not very presidential, Drilon says

Inventing bank account numbers is “not very presidential,” Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drion said Wednesday, after President Rodrigo Duterte admitted he made up the numbers to fool Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

“At the level of the president, it’s a little unusual that he would admit that this is just an invented bank account. It’s not very presidential,” Drilon told reporters in an interview.

“In this particular episode, the debate is muddled by these assertions. How will this end? Your guess is as good as mine,” he added.

Trillanes flew to Singapore to prove that the bank accounts he’s being accused of maintaining do not exist. A DBS Bank branch in Singapore told Trillanes that the said accounts do not exist, and that there are no accounts under his name.

Duterte, however, said that he only made up the account number to fool Trillanes.

"Wala ito. Produkto ng isip ko ito. Tinanggalan ko talaga. Ginamit mo. Nag-issue ka ng waiver... Iba ang account number, iba ang totoo," Duterte said.

Sought for comment, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Duterte’s admission he made up Trillanes’ account number was part of his “unorthodox” and “out-of-the-box” style. —NB, GMA News
