Congressman seeks probe into Atio Castillo’s death

A lawmaker has filed a resolution seeking a probe into the death of 22-year-old Horacio "Atio" Castillo III, allegedly due to fraternity hazing.

In House Resolution 1322, Quezon City Representative Winston Castelo called for an inquiry into the death of the University of Santo Tomas law student, who may have been subjected to hazing by members of the Aegis Juris Fraternity.

Castillo's bruised and bloated body was rushed on Sunday morning to Chinese General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Castelo said an inquiry into Castillo's death will amend the defects of the Anti-Hazing Law which, according to him, has failed to prevent hazing activities.

Castelo said that this most recent fatality will urge the House of Representatives to enhance the Anti-Hazing Law, as the chamber deliberates other bills that seeks to regulate or prohibit hazing.

"The in-depth investigation of the reported hazing case of Castillo would then be of utmost importance in the furtherance of these deliberations," he said.

The Senate, meanwhile, will will conduct a probe into Castillo's death next week. — BM, GMA News
