During LEDAC meet, Duterte vows to certify BBL as urgent

During his latest meeting with the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) in Malacañang, President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed to certify the Bangsamoro Basic Law as urgent.

Duterte on Wednesday night convened the third LEDAC meeting that lasted for three hours to discuss the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act (TRAIN).

“In the course of the discussion, the President agreed to certify as urgent the proposed measures on the BBL and TRAIN,” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement to reporters.

Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas said that the BBL would be filed with the House of Representatives next week.

Duterte had earlier said he would certify the Bangsamoro Transition Commission-crafted BBL, which was presented to Malacañang in July, as urgent.

Earlier in the month, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front has earlier expressed frustration the BBL was not listed as one of the 14 priority legislation of Congress during the LEDAC meeting last August 29.

Duterte met with the MILF leaders in Malacañang two weeks ago and promised them that the BBL measure would be prioritized in the executive department.

In May, the President had already certified the first package of the tax reform bill as urgent. — MDM, GMA News
