Men seen escaping after military bomb hits Marawi building

The military is now more focused on the ground assault against the remaining members of the Maute group in Marawi City.

In a video aired on Unang Balita, some men were seen coming out of a building bombed by the military during a ground assault.

The bombed building was believed to be occupied by suspected Maute group members.

The military said on Tuesday that there are still around 40 to 50 Maute group members in the besieged city.

The local terror group is believed to be still holding at least 40 civilians, including children.

Among the remaining local terrorists are foreign-trained snipers, who killed a junior officer last October 6.

More than 150 soldiers and policemen have been killed in the ongoing armed conflict in Marawi City, which started last May 23.

The military, meanwhile, has counted at least 750 fatalities from the Maute group.

Forty civilians have been killed while 1,750 others have been rescued.

The military said its troops have taken over majority of the buildings used by the Maute group members as hiding places.

It also said that it has secured areas around the Lanao Lake, closing possible exit routes of the remaining Maute group members. —Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/ALG, GMA News
