Let bishops clean their ranks before they hit Duterte gov’t —Alvarez

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday asked the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to clean up its ranks first before criticizing the administration.

Alvarez made the remark after President Rodrigo Duterte's satisfaction rating dropped from very good to good, according to the Social Weather Stations.

Criticisms of the Duterte administration's war on drugs and the series of killings blamed on it have been seen as factors in the ratings drop.

"Posible kasi tingnan mo 'yung CBCP, putak ng putak sila, may mga challenges pa. Kapal ng mukha," Alvarez said at a news conference.

"Tingnan nga nila, ayusin muna nila 'yung mga pari nila, kung anu-anong pinaggagawang kabulastugan. Mga minors hindi ba, pinapatulan? Ang dami nilang may pedophiles. Ayusin muna nila iyong hanay nila bago sila putak ng putak against the government," he added.

The results of a recent SWS poll revealed that Duterte's net satisfaction ratings dropped by 18 points.

Alvarez said it was better to check the survey questions to see if they were not slanted against the President.

"'Yung trust and satisfaction rating, dapat tingnan nating mabuti ha? Unang-una, ano ba yung mga tanong? Pangalawa, saang areas ba?" he said.

"Tingnan natin kung wala bang slant ito, o hindi ba ito nagagamit para sabihin na bumaba talaga yung tiwala ng taumbayan kay Pangulong Duterte," he added.

Alvarez said he wanted to see for himself the details of the survey to help Duterte to address the problems and bring back his ratings.

"Gusto ko ngang makita iyong detalye ng survey para more or less kahit ako makakatulong ako kung paano i-address 'yung problema," he said. —NB, GMA News
