Atio parents’ DNA matches blood stains, body fluid taken from Aegis library

The DNA samples obtained from items found inside the Aegis Juris Fraternity Library came from an offspring of Horacio Castillo Jr and Carminia Castillo, parents of hazing victim Horacio "Atio" Castillo III.

“Yes, confirmed, 99.99 percent [nag-match],” said PNP Crime Lab DNA Analysis branch head Chief Inspector Lorna Santos, referring to the DNA test conducted on bloodstain and body fluid taken from the shirt and paddle, respectively, found at the frat house.

She said the police submitted several samples but they prioritized those taken from the shirt and paddle that was believed to be used in the initiation rites attended by Castillo.

“Marami silang ibang isinubmit pero ‘yun ang inuna, ‘yung shirt and paddle,” she said.

She said the result was released Thursday.

Castillo, a 22-year-old law student of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), died of a massive heart attack as a result of the injuries he sustained from hazing in September.

In an earlier testimony, Aegis Juris member John Paul Solano said he brought Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital (CGH) on September 18.

Castillo's body was covered in bruises and candlewax drippings. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Solano, who claimed to have found Castillo by chance, was later found to be a member of the fraternity. The red Strada pick-up truck he used to bring Castillo to CGH was registered to a fellow member's parent.

After surrendering himself to the authorities, Solano admitted he just followed his frat brothers' orders to bring Castillo to CGH in Blumentritt. —KBK, GMA News
