Classes, gov’t work resume Tuesday despite transport strike

UPDATE Work in government offices and classes will resume on Tuesday despite the continuation of the two-day nationwide transport strike led by PISTON, Malacañang announced on Monday.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar so announced in a text message to reporters.

Malacañang on Sunday cancelled government work and classes in anticipation of the transport strike against the government's proposed modernization of jeepneys.

According to presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, the commuters were not really affected by the transport strike on Monday.

Abella said Joint Quick Response Team (JQRT) on Transportation recommended the resumption of government work and classes.

"Based on the assessment of the JQRT, the nationwide strike of transport group Piston barely affected the riding public," Abella said.

"Be that as it may, the contingency preparation today will remain for tomorrow," he added. —NB, GMA News
