AFTER LIBERATION

Alejano praises gov’t soldiers, calls for swift Marawi rehab

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano on Tuesday rejoiced over the liberation of Marawi City, calling it a testament of the soldiers' "undying love and service for our country."

In a statement, Alejano thanked and saluted government troops who fought the terrorist Maute group during the crisis in Marawi.

"I especially give my respect to our soldiers who passed away and who offered the extreme sacrifice in line of duty," he said.

On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte declared that Marawi City is free from terrorists, and this "marks the beginning of the rehabilitation."

Duterte's pronouncement came a day after government troops killed terror leaders Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute.

Alejano said the challenge now for the government  was to bring back the glory of Marawi City.

"The rehabilitation of Marawi City should have a comprehensive, multi-agency plan in order to properly address all fronts," he said.

This, Alejano said, should include the provision of basic needs, building of houses and infrastructures, and return of economic activity.

"Psychological services should also be provided for the residents and soldiers who have been in the frontlines and have endured the conflict on the ground," he added.

Alejano is hoping that the rehabilitation of the conflict-ridden city would be swift and reliable.

He reiterated his call for the government to determine the root cause of the Marawi crisis.

"Terrorism is a global problem which needs our urgent attention. Likewise, continued support for our armed forces is imperative in order to respond to various security threats that we may face in the future," Alejano said. — MDM, GMA News
