Duterte promises to put a TV in each prison cell in Bicutan

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he would put a television set in every prison cell for the inmates at the Bicutan jail inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

Duterte inspected the cells at the Tafuig prison facility on Wednesday.

"Tinitignan ko kung ano sitwasyon ng mga presuhan at okay naman sila and I’m happy. And of course, we would want to give them everything pero ang nasabi ko sa kanila, each and every selda would have a TV by the end of the month, ‘yun na lang ang maibigay ko muna," Duterte said.

"Okay ang sitwasyon, they are comfortable, clean. I’m satisfied by the way it is being run by the BJMP. So I would like to congratulate ang kasamahan niyo, kaibigan ko, for a job well done so far," he added.

Farhana Maute, Janet Lim-Napoles, Abu Sayyaf terrorists, and other high-risk and high-value inmates are detained in Camp Bagong Diwa.

According to BJMP spokesperson Jail Senior Insp. Xavier Solda, Duterte passed the building where the Maute matriarch was detained.

There are 6,274 inmates in the camp.

The overall population of the inmates in the country is 152,428, managed by 12,193 jail guards.

Duterte also said he would find ways to promote the products of the inmates.

"Aside from the TV for each room, kasi nakakaawa naman ‘yung mga preso, walang libangan, but pati ‘yung produkto nila, they are good at the handicraft because they have nothing to do," Duterte said.

"Bilihin ko siguro at pabisitahin ko ‘yung DSWD... para how we can market their products, para kikita sila and of course, a program sa follow-up to see whether their children are studying still or not," he added. —NB, GMA News
