LRTA execs experience glitch while using new LRT-2 escalator

A minor glitch marred Thursday's opening of the new conveyance system of LRT-2 stations, which included new elevators and escalators, according to Tina Panganiban-Perez's report on Balitanghali.

The report said one of the 13 escalators stopped just as when LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya, who graced the opening, and several others officials and visitors were testing it.

According to contractor Francis Ondoy, general manager of IFE Elevators and Escalators, something may have triggered the escalator's safety device or a cat may have been stuck under it.

Aside from 13 new escalators, 32 new elevators were opened on Thursday.

Berroya said primary beneficiaries of the new elevators and escalators are the senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The government spent P138 million for the new conveyance system, the report said, adding P48 million has already been allotted for 14 more escalators.

The LRTA is also planning to improve the airconditioning system of the trains. —KBK, GMA News
