Duterte meets FIBA officials as PHL eyes hosting 2023 World Cup


President Rodrigo Duterte has welcomed officials of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) inspecting the country's basketball facilities.

The FIBA officials are in the country to inspect the facilities in connection with the Philippines' bid to co-host with Indonesia and Japan the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

The tournament is held every four years.

The bid was submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

The group said FIBA would announce the winning bid by yearend.

The meeting took place at Manila Hotel on Thursday. Malacañang released the photos early Friday morning.

Joining the President were businessman Manuel Pangilinan, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez, and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go.

Malacañang did not provide any more information about the meeting.
