13 reported dead due to Paolo as rivers swell, trapping residents

At least 13 people were reported dead due to Typhoon Paolo as it continued to bring heavy rains across many parts of the country, according to a report on 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday.

Among those killed was a man in Lanao del Norte after a large tree fell on him due to strong winds brought by "Paolo," GMA News' Katrina Son said in a report.

Meanwhile, residents in Bonggao, Tawi-Tawi were helpless, looking on as strong currents destroyed their homes.

At least 40 houses along the coast were completely damaged due to the currents brought by the inclement weather.

Some 200 families from three barangays were forced to evacuate.

In Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, rescuers were having a difficulty in saving trapped residents due to a swollen river.

Rescuers used ropes and life buoys to save them.

An overflowing river was also the reason for the knee-level flood at several barangays in the town of Ilog, Negros Occidental. Roads were impassable because of the flooding.

On the other hand, a large portion of rice fields in Pigcawayan, Cotabato was immersed in flood due to heavy rains brought by "Paolo." — Ted Cordero/MDM, GMA News
