Roque wants to teach Mocha virtues of mainstream media

Presidential spokesman Secretary Harry Roque wants to teach Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and President Rodrigo Duterte's hordes of online supporters a thing a or two about the virtues of the mainstream media and its constitutional freedoms.

Roque made the remark days after RJ Nieto, the person behind the pro-Duterte blog Thinking Pinoy, asked him on radio to throw a "hollow block" the way of a Malacañang reporter critical of the Duterte administration.

Roque said he would like to inform Uson, the Presidential Communications Operations Office's official in charge of the social media, that the members of the mainstream media were the ones who exposed the previous administration.

"Iyong teka-teka policy ng nakaraang administrasyon, iyong korapsyon sa pork barrel na ebidensiya na iyong nakalipas na administrasyon maraming kapalpakan, hindi naman natin malalaman kung hindi sa lehitimong media," Roque told reporters after his briefing in Malacañang.

"Isang dahilan kaya naluklok sa kapangyarihan ang mga presidente, I'm explaining this to the DDS (Duterte's die-hard supporters) ‘no, because the media has exposed yung mga kapalpakan ng nakalipas na administrasyon," he added.

Roque said he was hoping Uson would also attend his media briefings so he could address her directly. He said he was also hopeful that Uson would take his comments well.

"The people would have not supported President Duterte if the media did not emphasize iyong kapalpakan ng previous administrasyon... Ngayon naman, wala namang ikatatakot sa media ngayon. Bagamat napakadaming batikos, lahat ng batikos naman ay nasasagot," Roque said.

"Bago pa lang naman kami nagkasama ni Asec. You know, I like her, she likes me. I will forever be a law professor and I will forever consider individuals as under my tutelage on important matters. So I hope Asec. Mocha will accept being a student of the spokesperson," he added.

GMA News Online has reached out to Uson for comment. —NB, GMA News
