Ahead of trip to the country, Trump misspells Philippines

US President Donald Trump in tweet on Sunday misspelled the Philippines as he announced his scheduled trip to the country to attend the 31st Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders' Summit and Related Meetings.

Trump spelled the country's name with two Ls, Phillipines.

The US leader participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Vietnam. He will also fly to the Philippines to join the ASEAN Leaders' Summit.

A netizen noticed the error and reminded the US leader of the correct spelling of the country's name.

Former party-list congressman Teddy Casiño, in a reply to Trump's tweet, mentioned the ASEAN welcome tarps with misspelled "Philippines."

The ASEAN 2017 National Organizing Committee on Saturday said that the welcome tarps pinned in areas leading to the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City that say "WELCOME to the Philppines! ASEAN Delegates!" have been taken down.

It said the tarpaulins "did not conform to the approved final artwork." —ALG, GMA News
