FRUSTRATION AMONG MOTORISTS

MMDA says don't violate ASEAN traffic rules

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appealed to motorists on Sunday not to violate the temporary traffic rules and regulations for the 31st Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings.

The statement comes after actress and former beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez bragged about removing traffic cones that demarcate the ASEAN lane along EDSA.

"We understand the frustration, 'yung traffic, pero 'wag naman ho tayong to the extent na mag-va-violate tayo ng traffic rules and regulations na sinet natin for ASEAN week," MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

Lopez may lose her driver's license after the MMDA and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said they will recommend for it.

Pialago said Lopez's behavior was a "serious breach of security" and that similar sanctions will be imposed against motorists who will misbehave in a similar way.

"If this will happen again, we are very serious on this, lahat ng gagaya dito. Ilang beses na kaming tinanong regarding this. Anong plano sa mga gagaya? Kung ano 'yung recommendation kay Ms. Lopez, magiging ganon din ang recommendation natin sa ordinaryong tao," Pialago added. — Marlly Rome Bondoc/VDS, GMA News
