Duterte turns over ASEAN chairmanship to Singapore

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday formally closed the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit and Related Summits and turned over the chairmanship to Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Under Duterte's leadership, the ASEAN adopted a landmark agreement on the rights and protection of migrant workers. The 10-member bloc also engaged China on negotiations for a South China Sea code of conduct.

The Philippines' chairmanship coincided with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the association. —JST, GMA News
