Robredo camp: Bongbong’s ‘witnesses’ not registered voters

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday accused former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. of deception in connection with the latter's bid for the recount of votes from the May 2016 elections.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Robredo's lawyers have notified the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), that some of the voters proposed by Marcos as witnesses from clustered precincts in Lanao del sur, Maguindanao and Basilan were not registered for the 2016 elections.

Robredo's camp said that Marcos had resorted to "deceptive" ways in an attempt to convince the PET to rule in his favor.

GMA News has reached out to Marcos for comment.

Both parties initially agreed to present three witnesses per clustered precinct last July and August. Marcos did not follow through with either.

Now, given a second chance, Marcos presented 8,000 names of alleged voters.

Marcos, who lost the vice presidential bid by 263,473 votes, has asked for a manual recount and the nullification from several clustered precincts, claiming terrorism, intimidation, harassment of voters, substituted voting, pre-shading of ballots, and other forms of electoral fraud. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
