APPEAL TO PINOYS

Kin says Andres Bonifacio shouldn’t be associated with violence

A granddaughter of Philippine hero Andres Bonifacio has appealed to Filipinos not to associate her grandfather with violence and use of force in achieving a goal, GMA News' JP Soriano reported on Balita Pilipinas on Thursday.

"Tinayo niya ang Katipunan dahil mas gusto niyang mapalaya nang tuluyan ang ating bansa dahil kung titignan naman natin, siguro kung hindi siya lumaban baka hanggang ngayon hawak tayo ng dayuhang gobyerno," said Police Chief Inspector Andrea Bonifacio.

Chief Insp. Bonifacio, a forensic chemist at the Southern Police District Crime Lab, also said Filipinos should stop comparing Bonifacio to Jose Rizal, the country's National Hero whose style in fighting the Spanish regime was vastly different from Bonifacio's.

Chief Insp. Bonifacio was among the guests during a gathering at the Ang Supreme Monument in Taguig City on Thursday, November 30, for the 154th birth anniversary of Bonifacio.

A wreath-laying ceremony marked the event, as well as a 21-gun salute. —KBK, GMA News
