Bato expresses pride in Rock at PNPA recognition rites

The Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa expressed how proud he is for his son Rock, who has received recognition Saturday as a cadet at the PNP Academy.

"Last night when I was with the President, we went to Jolo, Sulu to give out awards to the Army and the Marines personnel... My wife told me that she was so excited. She told me she is preparing for shoes, pants, shirts, belt, pati brief and everything that our son is to wear today at the recognition rites... I'm just telling you how proud his father, kaya alam mong that is the feeling of all of us here today," Dela Rosa said in his recognition speech at the Academy.

Dela Rosa led the recognition rites of the PNP Academy this year for the "Hinirang" Class of 2021 in Camp General Mariano Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.

In his speech, the PNP chief lectured the cadets about the three "-tions" which they should take note.

"Sa buhay ng kadete there are only three significant phases in the life of a cadet, at ito 'yung tatlong "-tions" ng buhay natin - Incorporation, recognition and graduation.. Sa tatlong '-tions' na yan, ang pinakamahirap makuha ay recognition," Dela Rosa said.

He also shared his difficult experiences as a cadet, where he recalled doing all he can so that his parents - his father being a tricyle driver and his mother a fish vendor - could attend his graduation.

"Pero itong graduation, talagang pinilit ko na sila ay makapunta."

Dela Rosa is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1986. He will retire from the service in January 2018.

Dela Rosa encouraged the cadets whose parents were not able to attend the ceremony to not lose hope because they could one day be the PNP chief.

"Para sa mga unlucky cadets kagaya niyan, huwag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa dahil malaki ang tsansa n'yo na maging chief of PNP," he said.

Rock dela Rosa, the only son of the PNP chief, formally entered the PNP Academy last May.
