Sara Duterte says brother Paolo may join gov’t again in the future

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday raised the possibility that her brother, resigned Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, will join the government again in the future.

In a press conference, Sara said Paolo, who announced his resignation on Christmas Day, even mentioned in his statement that he would be looking forward to the day he could join public service again.

“Well, kung mabasa nimo didto sa iyang statement, nakabutang didto, ‘I look forward to the day’ na he can serve our country again,” she said.

“I don’t think na he is closing his doors in running again. But for this term, daghan na kaayo ug issues na impugning his honor so he felt na the best way to redeem his honor and protect his children is to resign,” she added.

Paolo said he resigned out of delicadeza, noting his alleged involvement in the P6.4 billion shabu shipment from China and his public squabble with his 17-year-old daughter Isabelle.

Sara earlier said that it would be up to the Office of the President to accept Paolo's resignation. Their father, President Rodrigo Duterte, said that it would be up to Paolo to decide on his fate.   —KBK, GMA News
