Palace: Duterte’s political will vs. terrorists in Marawi improved trust ratings

President Rodrigo Duterte’s actions to ensure the defeat of the ISIS-inspired Maute group in Marawi City contributed to the Chief Executive’s improved trust ratings in a recent survey, Malacañang said Friday.

“I think the fact that he has shown that he can exercise political will to defeat terrorists and violent extremists in Marawi, the fact that people's optimism is at an all-time high, the fact that manufacturing output is at an all-time high, so all this indicate that the economy is growing as promised,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said at a briefing in Valencia City, Bukidnon.

“He has promoted the rule of law against the threat of terrorism and of course he is winning in the war against drugs,” he added.

Duterte's net trust rating rebounded from a decline in the third quarter to an "excellent" +75 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2017, the Social Weather Stations found in a survey conducted from December 8 to 16.

Roque, nonetheless, vowed that the Duterte administration would not be complacent after the President’s trust ratings increased.

“We, therefore, assure that everyone, that the Chief Executive together with his team will remain undistracted in improving the lives of the poor and marginalized, fighting criminality and enforcing the law and curbing graft and corruption in government,” he said. — MDM, GMA News
