EPD says bullet from partner’s gun killed Mandaluyong shooting mishap victim

A victim in the December 28 shooting incident in Mandaluyong City was slapped with a homicide complaint after the Eastern Police District found in its investigation that he—and not the responding police officers— fatally shot Jonalyn Amba-an by accident.

A report by GMA News' Marisol Abdurahman on 24 Oras on Friday said Amba-an had 14 bullet wounds, including one in the head that killed her. EPD investigators said the bullet came from the gun fired by her live-in partner Eliseo Aluad.

Aluad was among the two people wounded when policemen responding to a shooting incident fired at a Mitsubishi Adventure van that they mistook for the suspects' getaway vehicle.

The vehicle, as it turned out, was bringing Amba-an to a hospital after she was shot during an altercation between two groups of men in Barangay Addition Hills.

"'Di ba itinakbo siya sa hospital? Dahil nga may tama na si Jonalyn sa ulo," said Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen of the EPD.

"Ang nakapatay sa kanya [ay] sa ulo kasi ito ang pinaka-fatal na tama, sa ulo," he added.

Citing a witness, the EPD said Aluad accidentally shot Amba-an when she tried to stop him from joining the fight with another group of men.

Aluad is still recuperating at a hospital. His sister said they do not believe the police's version of the incident.

"Ayun naman po ang hindi kapani-paniwala doon," said his sister Aris.

Aluad had earlier claimed that Amba-an was shot by a member of the rival group, and that they were bringing her to a hospital when they were shot several times by the police.

Aris said her brother was not armed during the altercation. —KBK/NB, GMA News
