Ex-Customs chief temporarily leaves Senate detention on Friday night

Former Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has been temporarily released from the Senate premises, where he had been detained following his citation for contempt in September.

According to Nimfa Ravelo's report on Super Radyo dzBB, Faeldon was given a 48-hour pass so that he could be with his partner who just gave birth to their youngest child.

Faeldon left the Senate at 10 p.m. on Friday night.

He was escorted by staff of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms as he remained in Senate custody.

Faeldon, who was recently appointed deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, will be returned to his Senate detention on Sunday night.

The former rebel officer was cited in contempt after he refused to attend the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's hearings on the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slipped past customs officers in the middle of last year.

The shipment was later seized in a raid on a Valenzuela warehouse. —NB, GMA News
