Roque: Gov't official, cops to be fired by Duterte named next week

Malacañang on Saturday said it will reveal next week the names of the head of government office and another set of policemen who will be fired by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a briefing in Cebu City that "a decision has been made" against the unnamed government official and policemen.

"There's a reason why it hasn't been announced but I will be announcing it very soon... Next week," Roque said.

Duterte hinted on Friday that the next government official he will fire is a "chairman of an entity in government."

He also said that three star-ranked police officials are included in the list of policemen who will be fired soon.

"I am in the thick of firing people. I intend to fire another maybe 70 or 49 policemen and three generals for corruption," Duterte said at an event of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation at the Manila Hotel.

Last week, Duterte sacked Marcial Amaro III as administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) for allegedly making excessive trips.

Duterte had also dismissed former Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor chair Terry Ridon over alleged unnecessary trips. —ALG, GMA News
