Six reported killed in Vis-Min landslides


Six people have been reported killed in separate landslides in Tacloban City in Eastern Visayas and in Pantar town in Lanao del Norte in Mindanao.

In Tacloban, four people were buried alive in a landslide that hit a quarry site in Barangay 43B along Rizal Avenue Extension at about 9 p.m. amid heavy rains on Saturday.

Local officials were quoted as saying that the fatalities included Barangay secretary Inday Hernandez, her husband, and one of her children.

A fourth fatality was identified as Delia Carzon, chief of Barangay 43B tanods (barangay watchmen), according to her husband Sonny Carzon.

Search and rescue operations, led by Mayor Cristina Romualdez, have continued on Sunday morning as several houses have been buried in the landslide.

In Pantar town, two senior citizens were killed in a landslide amid heavy rains in also on Saturday.

An initial investigation showed that the victims were an elderly couple in Barangay Balo-i.

Local officials also said flash floods hit some areas in the province.
