Andanar on calls for Mocha to quit: Nagkamali yung tao, ‘di sinasadya

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Sunday defended his subordinate Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson for committing a mistake in locating Mayon Volcano in Naga, Camarines Sur instead of Albay.

"Well, alam mo naman eh nagkamali 'yung tao, hindi naman sinasadya at ito naman ay malayo sa ano, sa kumbaga sa dedikasyon ng tao sa gobyerno at sa mamamayan in terms of public service," Andanar said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB when asked about calls for Uson's resignation after her recent gaffe.

But Andanar said the public has its right to express their opinion regarding the matter.

"Yung mga kababayan natin na nanawagan na magbitiw, of course meron din silang karapatan na maghayag ng kanilang saloobin."

Uson's mistake immediately went viral and inspired memes on social media, with some netizens calling for her resignation.

Mocha has since apologized for her mistake

"Trending nga po tayo dahil diyan sa nakakatawang issue, ‘yang pagkakamali ko na ang bulkang Mayon ay nasa Naga. Okay, pasensya po, inaamin ko po na nagkakamali ako, okay, pasensya na po, ayan," Uson said.

"Nakakatawa, napakaliit na issue, ginagawang headline, ginagawang national news, trending, pero pagdating sa Dengvaxia, tahimik kayo, 'di ba, tapos pagdating sa pagkamatay ni Atio Castillo diyan sa UST, tahimik din kayo," she said, referring to Horacio Castillo III, a freshman law student at the University of Santo Tomas who died after attending the "welcoming rites" of the Aegis Juris fraternity.

Uson has also been in the spotlight when she received the Thomasian Alumni Award for Government Service from the UST Alumni Association Inc.. She has returned the award  following heavy criticisms from netizens. —LBG, GMA News
