352 cops dismissed since Bato assumed top PNP post

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Monday that a total of 352 police officers have been dismissed since he assumed the top PNP post in July 2016.

Of the 352 cops, 167 were allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

Dela Rosa said the highest rank among the dismissed personnel was a superintendent.

“Since I assumed as chief PNP, I have already dismissed 352 policemen for various offenses, 167 nito ay drugs o drug-related, 155 others ay kidnapping, murder, extortion, various offenses na,” he said during a press conference after the flag ceremony.

Based on the data from the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, of the 167, 146 were found positive for illegal drugs while 21 were involved in illegal drug operations.

A total of 72 police officers were dismissed for being absent without leave; 57 were for grave offenses such as immorality, estafa, and dishonesty; 22 for murder; 15 for robbery extortion.

Nine police officers were dismissed for human rights violations such as homicide, illegal arrest, detention, or incriminatory machination, and parricide; eight for kidnapping; one for graft and malversation; and one for rape.

Dela Rosa said there was also a senior superintendent who was recommended for dismissal but they sent it to Malacañang for proper action.

“Napabayaan yung city director ng Iloilo City, napabayaan na magproliferate yung drug problem doon at si Odicta napabayaan na lording over sa drugs doon.  Kinasuhan ‘yung city director. basta andun pa. Ayoko sabihin ang pangalan, hindi ako magdidismiss e Malacanang, so Malacañang na ang mag-announce n’un,” he said.

The PNP can only dismiss police officers up to the rank of superintendent.

Dela Rosa said there are 329 more who might be dismissed for various offenses.

“May pending na 329, meaning either tapos na ‘yung investigation, pirma ko na lang ang kulang o ongoing pa ang investigation,” he said. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
