Japanese navy vessel docks in Manila for goodwill visit


A Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) vessel docked in Manila on Friday for a goodwill visit.

The vessel, the JS Amagiri (DD-154), is an Asagiri-class (general type) destroyer. 

It arrived at Pier 15 with an SH-60J helicopter and approximately 200 officers and crew on board.

The vessel will be in Manila until Sunday, February 4.

The JS Amagiri was met by the Philippine Navy vessel BRP Rajah Humabon in Corregidor and escorted to its designated anchorage area.

JMSDF officials led by Captain Koji Saito, commander of Escort Division Two, and Commander Michiaki Mori, commanding officer of JS Amagiri, were scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Philippine Navy Flag Officer-in-Command Rear Admiral Robert Empedrad on Friday afternoon.

The JMSDF and the Philippine Navy will have confidence-building activities to strengthen their relationship and enhance and sustain maritime cooperation and the promotion of peace and stability. —KG, GMA News
