Trillanes mocks Koko opposition to probe Duterte ‘bank accounts’: ‘Masyado naman siyang ninenerbyos’

Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III cannot reject a probe sought on the alleged bank accounts of President Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said Monday.

Trillanes, a fierce critic of the chief executive, said Pimentel appears to be too nervous about the investigation.

“I filed a valid resolution and it should be referred to the Committee on Banks as stated. This would just be part of the oversight functions of the Senate,” Trillanes said in a statement.

“Senator Pimentel, even as Senate President, has no power to disallow its referral. Masyado namang siyang ninenerbyos agad para sa amo nya,” he added.

Pimentel is a close ally of Duterte and president of the ruling party PDP-Laban.

He said the Senate resolution filed by Trillanes seeking a probe on the alleged bank accounts of Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, would just be a “tragic waste of time.”

Trillanes, however, defended his move to call for an investigation, saying he was merely answering Duterte’s dare.

“Besides, it was Duterte himself who challenged the Senate to investigate his bank account. So, ito na ang sagot sa hamon ng amo nya,” Trillanes said.

In his resolution, Trillanes cited the Vera Files report that says Duterte and his daughter, Sara, had at least P100 million in joint deposits and investments that were not disclosed in their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

Vera Files said the report was based on documents previously released by Trillanes. The senator had claimed that the documents came from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).

Late last month, Duterte told the media that he is open for any investigation by Congress on reports questioning his wealth. — RSJ, GMA News
