Caroline Kennedy pays respects to fallen American soldiers on first trip to PHL

Former United States Ambassador Caroline Kennedy on Tuesday paid her respects to fallen American soldiers at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial.

Kennedy, the only surviving child of US President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is visiting the Philippines for the first time.

“This is my first trip to the Philippines and I very much wanted to visit this country which has played such an important role in American history and had so many wonderful memories of all the Filipino people who have served with my father in the White House,” she said.

“And I know that there are some members memorialized here so I wanted to come and pay my respects,” she added.

Kennedy said that she visited the country to meet US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, who accompanied her as she toured the memorial.

“Well I have great admiration for the American ambassador who’s serving here now so it all worked out and I’m here visiting with the Asian Business Council,” she said.

“I’m very excited to be here and look forward to a great couple of days,” she added. — BM, GMA News
