Duterte on Sara vs. Alvarez: Intriga lang, media again

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday seemed to shrug off the issue involving his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and key ally, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

The mayor earlier took to the social media to lash out at Alvarez for supposedly calling her a part of the political opposition and claiming that he had the power to impeach Duterte.

Alvarez has already denied making such statements while the President dismissed the matter as mere intrigue.

"Ano lang ‘yan, ‘yung intriga. Media again," Duterte told reporters after visiting the wake of overseas Filipino worker Joanna Demafelis in Sara, Iloilo.

Duterte also belied speculations that Sara was interested in succeeding him in Malacañang.

"Wala. Istorya lang man ‘yan. My daughter does not want politics anymore," the President said. "But talking of dynasty, ako hindi naman ako makatakbo. ‘Pag si Inday ayaw niyang tumakbo that will be the end of the Dutertes in Davao."

The younger Duterte recently led the formation of regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago which she said had the blessing of Duterte.

"Even the use of the word Hugpong as the name of our regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago has the President’s approval. I also specifically informed the President that I will not join [ruling party] PDP Laban," she said. —NB, GMA News
