Dengvaxia protected nine-year-old vaccinee from dengue —DOH

A nine-year-old Dengvaxia vaccinee who was confined at the Ospital ng Maynila may have been protected by the controversial vaccine from the disease, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said on Thursday.

According to Maki Pulido's report on "24 Oras", the Public Attoney's Office officials had said that the child went through delirium and they blamed it on the vaccine.

Duque went to the Manila hospital on Thursday to check on the patient.

Contrary to what the PAO said, the health secretary said Dengvaxia could have protected the child.

"The patient has negative NS1 antigen, which is a marker for dengue infection," Duque told reporters.

"However, positive for IGM and IGG, which only means that the vaccine has induced a protective anti-body response or production," he added. —NB, GMA News
