NAMFREL: No indication so far of fraud in 2016 polls

The National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) is also conducting a probe on alleged irregularities during the May 2016 automated national elections, noting that there are no indications of fraud so far.

According to Sandra Aguinaldo's report in State of the Nation with Jessica Soho on Thursday, NAMFREL has been looking into the matter even before Senator Vicente Sotto III made the claims about supposed irregularities in a privilege speech this week.

"Kunyari ito ang source at ang target ko 'yung address na 'yun pero 'di ko naman pinapakita 'yung data. Kung conclusive then they will make an announcement lalo na kung merong fraud, they have to say something about it. But so far, wala namang indication ng fraud," said NAMFREL chairman Gus Lagman.

"Part of NAMFREL are some technical people but those technical people are also part of a bigger technical group of people. So mag-uusap-usap 'yan," Lagman added.

In his privilege speech last Tuesday, Sotto said transmission activity was captured as early as May 8, 2016 — the day before the election day. The senator, citing information from a source, said six candidates allegedly benefited from the supposed irregularities.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has vowed to look into the matter.

The poll body's office in Region V expressed support in conducting investigation as to the issue as they deemed it as "grave accusation."

"That is a grave ano parang accusation, imagine di pa nagkakaron ng election, nagkakaron na ng transmission. Reserve ko 'yung comment namin kung ano ba talaga kalalabasan ng investigation," said Attorney Romeo Serrano, assistant regional director. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST, GMA News
