Andanar reveals ‘big project’: National branding for Philippines

The Duterte administration is looking at giving the Philippines a "national branding" to promote the country globally, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar revealed Saturday.

Andanar told state-owned Radyo Pilipinas that he got the approval for the plan from President Rodrigo During during the last Cabinet meeting.

The Communications chief said the "big project" should have representations from all of the government's agencies.

"Iyong national branding kasi, iyong halimbawa iyong Australia, mayroon silang 'Australia unlimited.' Mayroon tayo sa Africa, 'it’s time for Africa.' Mayroon kasi tayong mga advertising sa Pilipinas na tourism-centered, okay? Mayroon ding advertising na country centered." Andanar explained.

He further explained that the national branding is not only intended for tourism promotion and they it an all-encompoassing name that will represent the country as a whole.

"All-encompassing, kasama iyong investment, kasama iyong tourism, kasama iyong education, kasama iyong culture lahat. So ang national branding ng Pilipinas will center on the entire nation and it is the first time that the country will be branded," the secretary added.

Andanar said that based on the plan, the national branding should complement the current advertising efforts of the Department of Tourism. —ALG, GMA News
