SWS: Sereno, Alvarez ratings drop to ‘neutral’; Leni, Koko ratings still ‘good’

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez had double-digit declines in their net satisfaction ratings based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, the results of which were released Tuesday.

The survey, conducted from March 23 to 27, showed Sereno and Alvarez were both rated as "neutral," obtaining -7 and +1 net satisfaction ratings, respectively.

Sereno's new personal record-low of -7 (29 percent, satisfied and 37 percent, dissatisfied) showed a 13-point decline from her rating in December 2017, which can be attributed to the decreases of 27 points in Mindanao, 13 points in the Visayas, 11 points in Balance Luzon, and three points in Metro Manila.

From December 2017 to March 2018, the decrease in Sereno’s net satisfaction ratings occurred in overall urban areas (down from neutral, +3 to poor, -11); among men (down from neutral, +7 to poor, -15); among 18 to 24-year-olds (down by two grades from good, +30 to neutral, +3); among 35 to 44-year-olds (down from neutral, -2 to poor, -13); among 45 to 54-year-olds (down from moderate, +11 to neutral, -9); and among college graduates (down from neutral, +1 to poor, -17).

Meanwhile, the SWS said Alvarez also got a 13-point decline, which resulted in +1 from +14 in December last year. This showed 31 percent of the respondents were still satisfied with his performance while 29 percent was dissatisfied.

The decline was due to decreases of 28 points in Mindanao, 12 points in the Visayas, and 10 points in Balance Luzon, combined with a three-point increase in Metro Manila, the SWS added.

Across socio-demographics, the increase Alvarez’s net satisfaction ratings from December 2017 to March 2018 happened among non-elementary graduates (up from neutral, +9 to moderate, +12).

On the other hand, downgrades occurred in both urban (down from moderate, +11 to neutral, net zero) and rural (down from moderate, +16 to neutral, +3) areas; among class Ds or the masa (down from moderate, +16 to neutral, +2); among both men (down from moderate, +14 to neutral, -2) and women (down from moderate, +15 to neutral, +5); among 18 to 24-year-olds (down from moderate, +16 to neutral, +4); among 35 to 44-year-olds (down from moderate, +22 to neutral, -3); among 45 to 54-year-olds (down from moderate, +17 to neutral, +2); among 55-year-olds and above (down from moderate, +11 to neutral, +1); among elementary graduates (down from moderate, +14 to neutral, +6); among high school graduates (down from moderate, +16 to neutral, -3); and among college graduates (down from moderate, +14 to neutral, -2).

Leni, Koko ratings stay 'good'

Although down by eight points from last quarter's rating of +42, the rating of Vice President Leni Robredo remained "good" with +34 (57 percent, satisfied and 23 percent, dissatisfied).

The decline can be attributed to the decreases of 21 points in Mindanao, eight points in the Visayas, and four points in Balance Luzon, combined with a one-point increase in Metro Manila.

Upgrade in Robredo’s rating occurred among 18 to 24-year-olds (up from moderate, +29 to good, +34).

On the other hand, downgrades happened in overall urban areas (down from good, +33 to moderate, +25); among class ABCs (down by two grades from good, +32 to neutral, +3); among 25 to 34-year-olds (down from good, +36 to moderate, +27); among 55-year-olds and above (down from very good, +52 to good, +40); among high school graduates (down from good, +40 to moderate, +25); and among college graduates (down from good +30 to moderate +22).

The SWS also noted a double-digit decline among 45 to 54-year-olds, at +32 in March 2018, down by 12 points from +44 in December 2017.

The survey also said Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III's rating has stayed "good," with 57 percent satisfied and 16 percent dissatisfied with his work.

His rating was +41, an eight-point decrease from his +49 in the previous survey.

The decline was due to decreases of 24 points in Mindanao, 10 points in the Visayas, and two points in Balance Luzon, combined with a two-point increase in Metro Manila.

Downgrades in Pimentel’s net satisfaction rating occurred in overall urban areas (down from very good, +52 to good, +42); among class Es (down from very good, +56 to good, +33); among men (down from very good, +50 to good, +41); among 35 to 44-year-olds (down from very good, +54 to good, +43); among 55-year-olds and above (down from very good, +52 to good, +48); and among high school graduates (down from very good, +52 to good, +37).

The SWS also noted a double-digit decline among 25 to 34-year-olds, at +30 in March 2018, down by 14 points from +44 in December 2017.

The survey was done using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18- years-old and above) nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao (sampling error margins of ±3% for national percentages, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao).

The SWS considers net satisfaction ratings of +70 and above as excellent; +50 to +69, very good; +30 to +49, good; +10 to +29, moderate, +9 to -9, neutral; -10 to -29, poor; -30 to -49, bad; -50 to -69, very bad; and -70 and below, execrable. —KBK, GMA News
